BANGALORE, JUNE 15. An elderly man, who had gone for a morning walk to the Lalbagh here on Tuesday, was killed when a branch of a tree fell on him. The police said Venkatesh (62), an industrialist who lived in the Vani Vilas Road area, had gone to the Lalbagh along with his brother-in-law, Seshadri. Venkatesh was standing near the "floral clock" around 6 a.m. when a branch of a tree fell on him. Venkatesh, who suffered head injuries, was rushed to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-sciences where he was declared "brought dead," the police said. At least 12 trees were uprooted in different parts of the city in gales in the past 24 hours. A tree was uprooted at the City Civil Court premises on Nrupatunga Road on Tuesday afternoon. However, no one was injured. On Monday, 10 trees were uprooted in Byrasandra, Basavanagudi, Thyagarajnagar, 2nd Block, Jayanagar, Richmond Town, Sampangiramnagar, Anepalya, 2nd Stage, Indiranagar, J.P. Nagar, Koramangala, and other areas. The rescue squad of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and Fire Force personnel cleared the trees. Meanwhile, according to officials of the Indian Meteorological Department, the prevailing active monsoon conditions will continue till Thursday. Moderate to strong winds will also prevail till then.
