ERODE, JUNE.16. The Forest Department will spend Rs. 5 crores for road development in Sathyamangalam forest area, said the Sathyamangalam District Forest Officer, K.P. Duraisamy. He said the Kadambur-Makkampalayam, Kadambur-Kundry and Thengumarahatta roads in Sathyamangalam forest division would be developed for which a proposal had been sent to the Government. After inspection, the work would commence. Mr. Duraisamy said under the National Forest Development Programme, the Union Government had sanctioned Rs 2.67 crores to the Sathyamangalam forest area tribes as subsidy for 2003-2004. Similarly under the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Programme (TAP), with Japanees assistance, village committees were formed in Sathyamangalam forest area and its members would be given funds for purchase of milch animals and development of agriculture.
