PUDUKOTTAI, JUNE 16 . Assistance to the tune of Rs.1.73 crore would be disbursed to 2,526 beneficiaries in the district under various schemes of the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) during the current financial year. Stating this during a workshop organised by the corporation here today, the Collector, Jatindranath Swain, said it was essential to plan schemes in such a way that more Adi Dravidars benefit from them. During the last financial year, assistance to the tune of Rs. 1.11 crore was disbursed to 2,767 beneficiaries. A sum of Rs.46.71 lakhs was given 29 SHGs as subsidy under the self-help group (economic activities scheme.) A sum of Rs. 9.4 lakh was disbursed as revolving fund to 94 SHGs. Vocational training was imparted to 227 persons. The district had 2.5 lakh Adi Dravidars for whom several schemes had been implemented. At present, there were 1,000 SHGs for Adi Dravidars, he said. The land purchase scheme, meant to enable the landless Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe tillers to own land and bring fallow and wasteland under cultivation, and increase production and productivity, would be implemented from the current financial year. The Project Officer (District Rural Development Agency), P. Selvarajan, the Project Officer (in-charge), Mahalir Thittam, K. Jayalakshmi, lead district manager R. Muthaiyan, District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer, K. Thiagarajan, spoke.
