BELLARY, JUNE 16. The Deputy Commissioner, S.N. Jayaram, has asked for verification of the utilisation of foodgrains allocated for the food-for-work scheme in the district. Mr. Jayaram told presspersons here on Wednesday that in the wake of the rice scandal reported in other districts, he had asked a team of officials to inspect rice mills and godowns and get their accounts verified. It had been proved that everything was in order. He said there was no complaint from labourers from any part of the district that rice was not given to them. Mr. Jayaram said Rs. 1.05 crores was provided by the State Government for easing drinking water and fodder shortages during summer. There was no drinking water shortage in any part of the district, especially in the wake of good rain. The Tungabhadra Reservoir was getting good inflow. The rainfall received in the district since April was above normal and was adequate for sowing.
