Olympic Day run on June 23

HYDERABAD, JUNE 16. The Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association (APOA) will conduct the Olympic Day run in Hyderabad and Secunderabad on June 23.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has instructed all national associations to conduct the Olympic Day run in various parts of the world to commemorate the beginning of the modern Olympics on June 23. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in turn has asked the APOA to organise the run in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The details of the programme were released to the media at a press conference here on Wednesday. The APOA has also asked all the district associations to conduct the run at all district headquarters on the same day. The APOA will organise the run with the collaboration of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, Education department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and District Sports Development Authority (Hyderabad).

In Hyderabad the run will be flagged off from four centres namely Charminar, Victory Playground, YMCA Hyderabad and Mehdipatnam cross roads. In Secunderabad the run will begin from two centres namely Boinpally and Gandhi statue. All the runners from different centres will converge at the Lal Bahadur stadium.

Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Chief Minister, will address the gathering at the end of the run and a large number of dignitaries, officials and former sportspersons including Olympians, international and national players will take part in the programme.

The police department has been asked to make necessary traffic arrangements along the route and the AP State Road Transport Corporation will run special buses to transport the participants.
