President, PM express shock

NEW DELHI, JUNE 16. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, have expressed "deep shock" over the loss of lives in the Matsyagandha train accident today and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Dr. Singh issued instructions to the Railway Ministry to provide all necessary assistance to the affected people.

"I am deeply shocked to learn of the unfortunate Matsyagandha train accident today in which precious lives have been lost and a large number of people have been injured," Dr. Singh said in a message and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

In his message to the Railway Minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav, the President expressed the hope that all possible efforts and rescue measures would be made to provide relief and special care for the injured admitted to hospitals.
