BANGALORE, JUNE 16. The AITA junior tennis season, normally assures the local youngsters at least three to four tournaments at Bangalore in June. But uncertainty now prevails over some of the events scheduled to be held in Karnataka. The Super Series championship, which was to be conducted by Sadhashivanagar Club, was cancelled due to lack of sponsor. There are three Talent Series, scheduled for Mysore as well as Bangalore, the dates for which are yet to be confirmed by the organisers. In this background, the KIMS Tennis Academy has come forward to provide relief to the competition-starved youngsters by holding weekend championships during the last week of this month. KIMS, based in Cox Town area of the city, was established in 1988 by noted coach Shashikanth Kanbargimath, who is assisted by Yethiraj and Shivakumar and the Academy has coached over 250 youngsters, both at the basic and advanced levels of the game,. Yehiraj, recently took a bunch of youngsters to Spain for a stint at the Sanchez and Castle Academy in Barcelona. "The idea to hold weekend events occurred there. In Spain, they had lot of weekend meets for kids and there were a lot of playing opportunities and match practices. I felt that this was lacking for our local trainees and we thought of having weekend events from this month," said Yethiraj. The concept has been christened as weekend Talent Enhancement Series and the first of this event will be held on June 26 and 27. "Right now, we will restrict the events to under-14 section and add more events if we get a good response," said Yethiraj. Kanbarigmath said that KIMS hopes to make this a regular feature and ensure that there are enough junior competitions in Bangalore. Our Special Correspondent
