HYDERABAD, JUNE 16. `Nandi Natakotsavam' will be held in the State Capital between June 19 and 26. The event will see 162 plays being staged in all with 66 being social playlets, 39 plays and 57 `padya natakams' or verse dramas. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Commissioner, Information and Public Relations and Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation, K.V. Ramanachary, said scrutiny panels constituted by the State Government had scrutinised the performances and selected 10 each of the social plays, verse dramas and 12 social playlets for the competitions. Responding to a question, Mr. Ramanachary said he would `try' to see that the play that had been selected for the NTR Memorial Award -- the best in all the three categories put together -- was revealed to the media on the first day of the festival itself. He appealed to the print and electronic media not to indulge in any sort of speculation as to which play would bag the most prestigious award of them all. In all there were 45 awards including the first and second best performance in each of the three categories. They include individual awards for artistes and technicians. The remuneration for each selected play would Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000 for `padya natakams', social plays and social playlets, respectively, he said.
