BSNL to release 1.8 lakh SIM cards in July

By Our Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE, JUNE 17. The Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) will release 1,80,000 SIM cards in July, exclusively for Karnataka, K.J. Chacko, Chief General Manager (CGM), Karnataka Telecom circle, has said.

Speaking at a function organised here today to present the Sanchar Seva Padak and Sanchar Sarathy awards, Mr. Chacko said that the release of the BSNL SIM cards were in demand because of its wide coverage area and uninterrupted service.

He also said that demand for the pre-paid SIM cards was about 80 per cent and 20 per cent for the post-paid SIM cards.

The BSNL had taken up the task of improving the management of the hired circuit, he added.

He said that the BSNL had been providing telephones even to remote villages and claimed that there was hardly any place in Karnataka without a telephone connection. Mr. Chacko claimed that new telephone connections would be given in a day or two even in big cities such as Bangalore, Mangalore, and Hubli. In other places such as Davangere, he said that new telephone connections had been given on the day the applications were submitted.

He said that with the advent of mobile phones and many private telecom companies entering the field, the rate of growth had come down.

The General Manager, Davangere Telecom district, R. Sathiyanarayanan, and the Deputy General Manager, V.R. Lakshminarayan, said that in order to provide fault-free service to leased lines users, Managed Leased Line Network (MLLN) had been installed and the existing lines would be shifted to this system.

New demands for the leased line of any bandwidth could be met with this equipment.

G.M. Siddeshwar, MP, distributed the awards. The Inspector General of Police, Eastern Range, G.M. Hayath, was present.

The Sanchar Sarathy award was presented to Nagamma and Hanumanthappa, and the Sanchar Seva Padak award was presented to Kulgod and Onkaramurthy.
