Indo-EU round table to focus on tourism

By Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR, JUNE 17. The four-day Indo-European Union round table began here today amid tight security. This is the first time in the last 17 years that such a high-level meeting with international participation is being held in Srinagar.

The former Union Home Secretary, N.N. Vohra, who is also the Union Government's Special Representative on Kashmir, is the co-chairman of the round table.

On his arrival here along with 22 foreign and 17 Indian delegates, Mr. Vohra told The Hindu that the EU members were "keen and anxious" to see Kashmir and that was the main motivation for holding the meeting here. Every year two meetings are held — one in India and another in the EU. The earlier meetings in India took place in Jaipur and Bangalore, he said.

"We have a heavy agenda to discuss and the focus is tourism on which both the sides will deliberate," Mr. Vohra said.
