NEW DELHI, JUNE 17. The State-owned Engineers India Ltd. is planning more forays into airport development. It is gearing itself to join forces with Sunil Mittal promoted Bharti Enterprises and Changi Airport of Singapore to bid for development of Delhi and Mumbai airports. At a media meet the EIL Chairman and Managing Director, M. K. Dalal, said while Bharti and Changi would be equity investors in the project, two other partners would be involved. "Larsen & Toubro will be the construction partner and EIL will be the PMC contractor,'' he elaborated adding that EIL, in consortium with CPG Singapore, had already won the contract for designing of international terminal at Ahmedabad Airport. The company had also tied-up with the Airports Authority of India and was likely to secure an assignment relating to feasibility study for Pune-Chakan airport of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). "Airport is coming out to be a promising sector with substantial business prospects even as we venture overseas to secure refinery upgradation and pipeline construction jobs. EIL is also bidding with the Indian Oil Corporation for revamp of two refineries in Iran and one each in Sudan, Libya and Nigeria. It is also considering setting up a joint venture company in Algeria for providing engineering consultancy services as well as taking up projects on a turnkey basis,'' he said.
