The TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, interacted with the 36 of the 47 party MLAs, who attended the programme and told them to get acquainted with all the procedures and raise important people's issues. Among the absentees were the Asifnagar MLA, D. Nagender, and S.V. Subba Reddy (Pattikonda). Party sources, however, said that all the legislators, who did not attend the programme, had taken permission from the president.
Revision of electoral rolls
The enrolment work will be from July 1, 2004 to September 10, 2004. Publication of draft rolls will be on September 15. Claims and objections on the draft rolls will be can be made between September 15 and October 15. The final publication of the rolls will be made on January 3, 2005, according to an official press note.
Corporators to go on study tour
The team will study the functioning of municipal corporations in Delhi, Jaipur, Agra and Chandigarh. Last year also the Mayor and corporators went on a similar tour. Some corporators, who were opposing the tour on `financial' grounds stayed back. Mr. Chakravarthy, however, has asserted that such tours will help corporators understand the civic administration better. The team will be back on June 30.

Fifty-one-year old Mr. Somayajulu was a member of the Congress Manifesto Committee and was instrumental in providing key technical and financial inputs for deciding the feasibility of free power supply to farmers. A Fellow Member of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of India and Company Secretaries of India, he has experience in the fields of entrepreneurial development, industrial promotion, merchant banking, venture capital, energy, financial management and economic planning. He has been with the Congress since 1996 and is considered part of the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's think tank.
Hike in fuel prices draws flak
Ch. Rajakumari, president, P. Padma and Prem Pavani, general secretaries, in a statement urged the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to bring pressure on the Centre to do away with the increased prices. They called upon the parties forming the United Progressive Alliance to keep in view the promises they made in their election manifestoes and after the elections. The parties should look at economic needs of a large number of women and take steps to meet them. The State committee of CITU also demanded withdrawal of the increased prices which it said dashed the hopes of those who were happy after the formation of the UPA Government.

In a statement, Amar, Secretary of the State Committee, said it would come out with its detailed viewpoint shortly on some more steps to be taken by the Government to ensure that the talks take a concrete shape and ways of implementing them seriously and with sincerity. He has also emphasised on the need for all shades of Communist revolutionary groups prepared to participate in talks, to show unity and work as a team. He made an appeal to people, democratic organisations and intellectuals not to remain silent spectators but help in restoring peace in the State.

Mariamma, who actively participated in two major incidents of attack on police stations in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh in 2001, told reporters that she got fed up with party members as they did not care for her even while she was not well. "Ill-health and lack of care by my husband, Chalapathi the PW regional committee member, forced me to return to parents' house,'' she said.
Mariamma, who was married to one Venkateswarlu in 1990 against
her wishes, gave birth to a boy in 1991 and tried to commit suicide as the couple never got on well. She came in contact with the Dachepalli Dalam then and moved with the dalam members, who first said they wished to help the poor by distributing land used by her as a contact in the village.
In 1998 she joined the Dachepalli Dalam as full-time member under pressure from Sankaranna and served it for two years. Later she was shifted to the Bellamkonda dalam for one year under the influence of dalam leader Prabhakar, Mariamma said.
Three ex-naxals abducted?
Reports reaching here said that the Prathigatana group new commander, Kondanna and its state secretary Prasadanna were reportedly involved in the abduction of the former naxalites and the sympathiser from Yamanpalli and Nagaram villages of Mahamutharam mandal and Kataram mandal respectively.
Rain likely
Chintapalli in Visakhapatnam district recorded a rainfall of 1 cm during the 24-hour period ended Thursday morning.
Light to moderate rain is likely on Friday at a few places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts. Isolated rain is forecast in Telangana, Rayalaseema and the rest of coastal Andhra.
