NELLORE, JUNE 17. The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Panabaka Lakshmi, said that efforts would be made to upgrade the Government Headquarters Hospital at Nellore with state-of-the-art facilities. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, she said that the Ministry would provide funds for this purpose. The Minister, who toured different constituencies of Nellore district, said she had received more than 10,000 representations, which would be forwarded to the departments concerned. Earlier, talking to reporters at the Nellore railway station, after laying the foundation stone for the new station building at the east side entrance to be taken up at a cost of Rs. 1.50 crores, the Minister recounted the services initiated at her behest in Nellore. These included cancellation of surcharge for passengers of Charminar Express from Nellore to Chennai, halting of Kerala Express and computerisation of reservation counters. She said the work on the fourth platform at Nellore railway station was in progress. Other amenities include provision of more space for passengers at the reservation counter, one more trip to Chennai by MEMU train, halt of Coromandel Express at Nellore and single booking for lemon traders. Efforts would be made to extend the MEMU train up to Bitragunta and a VIP lounge was being planned at Gudur station
