Erode
By Our Staff Reporter
ERODE, JUNE 18 . Heavy flow in the Bhavani has damaged thousands of banana plantations in the catchment area of the Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) Reservoir. According to farmers of the region, the crop was being raised in Kandavayal, Sirumugai, Pothikuttai and Lingapuram villages, for the past four years due to poor inflow into the reservoir. But now, the crop that was ready for harvest had submerged. Officials of the Agricultural Department say that the farmers have raised the crop without the permission of either the Agriculture or the Public Works Department. Meanwhile, the LBP reservoir stands at 75 feet as against the full level of 120 feet, and the storage is over 12 feet.
