KOLLAM, JUNE 18. The CITU general secretary, P. K. Gurudasan, has demanded the Chief Minister to initiate emergency measures to revive the public sector undertaking, United Electrical Industries Limited (UEIL) here. In a statement here today, he said the UEIL was facing a closure threat. He blamed the KSEB and the State Government for the situation. Earlier, mechanical meters for the KSEB were provided by the UEIL. Now the KSEB has given orders for electronic meters to companies outside the State, he said. The switch over to electronic meters was a violation of the five-year agreement entered into by the previous LDF Government and the UEIL. As a result, the UEIL faces closure threat and already 123 employees of the company were compelled to avail the voluntary retirement scheme.
