IIM-A to decide fee structure today

AHMEDABAD, JUNE 18. The governing board of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will meet here tomorrow to decide on the fee structure.

While the meetings of the IIM-A and the IIM-Kozhikode are slated for tomorrow, those of the IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Lucknow will be on June 21 and June 23 respectively.

The `consensus' formula arrived at by the IIMs comprised reverting to the old fee structure, and introducing more need-based scholarships (NBS) to help the needy students. The IIMs already have the provision of NBS, but the number of scholarships is inadequate. The IIM-A has agreed to raise the fund for NBS from Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs. 80 lakhs.

IIM-I Director's effigy set afire

In Indore, Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) activists set afire the effigy of the Director of the IIM, S.P. Parashar, to protest the institute's decision to maintain the old fee structure.

The activists were led by the ABVP's technical wing head of the Indore-Dhar division, Pushyamitra Bhargava, the ABVP sources said.

Later, the ABVP workers submitted a memorandum to the Director listing its demands. The IIM-I sources said the memorandum would be forwarded to the ``authorities concerned.'' — PTI, UNI
