NEW DELHI, JUNE 17. Burning the midnight oil was not the only reason Priya Gupta emerged Delhi Zone topper of the Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) 2004 the results of which were declared on Thursday. Ms. Gupta -- ranked second in the country -- attributes her success to rigorous training imparted by a coaching institute. According to Ms. Gupta, 75 per cent of her success was due to the teaching methodology and guidance given at FIITJEE, one of the leading institutes for IIT-JEE coaching. "Hard work and parental back-up were no doubt important for my success, but the main factors were the technical inputs, analysis of test papers, and proper guidance that I received at this coaching institute," said Ms. Gupta, who underwent a two-year classroom training programme at FIITJEE. The programmes at the institute located here at Punjabi Bagh and Sarvapriya Vihar are geared to making students imbibe the fundamental concepts and honing their analytical skills. Rahul Naganathan, who has ranked 101, said: "The coaching institute gave us study material and test series based on the syllabus of Classes XI and XII. Questions asked in the IITJEE exam of physics, chemistry and maths were tougher as they dealt with numerical type problems unlike in the Class XII exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education where theoretical-type questions are asked." As FIITJEE's head of maths, P.K.Sharma, put it: "We try our level best to make students good in academics. We develop their examination temperament by holding preparatory exams in which invigilators are appointed from other institutes. The all-India topper of IIT-JEE is also from our institute."
