KOLAR, JUNE 18. Hundreds of students and the staff of a college run by the Golden Valley Educational Trust laid siege to the Syndicate Bank branch here on Friday. They were demanding that money be transferred from the fixed deposit of the trust to its savings bank account. The bank had been refusing to do so for over a week following a split in the management of the trust. The issue had gone to the court which reportedly ruled in favour of the group led by K. Thimmappaiah. It was allowed to handle the accounts of the trust. Tension prevailed for some time following the siege, and transactions were suspended for two hours in the branch. The Superintendent of Police, B.N.S. Reddy, rushed to the spot and spoke to higher authorities of the bank. Later, G.S. Aradhya, additional general manager of the bank, assured the college authorities that steps would be taken to transfer the money.
