COIMBATORE, JUNE 18. The continuing rain in Kerala and along the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu has led to considerable improvement in the storage in reservoirs. The Siruvani reservoir, which takes care of the drinking water needs of Coimbatore city and a number of wayside habitations, has been rising considerably in the last few days. With the 90 mm rainfall at Siruvani catchment at the end of 24 hours at 08.30 am today, the dam level has risen to 54.12 ft (874.4 mts above Mean Sea Level) as against the Full Reservoir Level of 67.65 ft (878.5 mts above the Mean Sea Level). At this rate, the authorities are hopeful that by the third week of June, the reservoir should start surplussing. The other major drinking water reservoir, Pilloor that has a full storage capacity of 210 mts, had already started surplussing resulting in flooding of Bhavani river. Some of the areas like Tirupur, Avanashi and Mettupalayam continue to experience stray showers. The dam levels (in ft) in the other Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) reservoirs are as follows (full capacity given in brackets): Sholayar 137.55 (160), Parambikulam 16.37 (145), Aliyar 80.30 (120), Tirumurthy 14.40 (60) and Amaravathy 76.12 (90). The rainfall level recorded at 08.30 am (in mm) is as follows: Sholayar 44, Parambikulam 78, Thoonakadavu 35, Peruvaripallam 39, Aliyar 8.8, Upper Aliyar 5, Lower Nirar 62, Sircarpathy 16.3, Makkinampatti 9, Manakkadavu 39.2, Valparai 36, Tirumurthy 12, TNAU 1, Upper Nirar 95, Pollachi 15 and Udumalpet 7.
