Seminar on rainwater harvesting

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE, JUNE 19. If people struggle for water during summer, it is evident that they do not have the necessary knowledge of water conservation, the Director of Samanvaya, Ronald Cutinha, has said.

He was the resource person at a seminar on rainwater harvesting organised by Catholic Sabha, Derebail, recently.

Quoting a United Nations estimate, Dr. Cutinha said an individual needed at least 135 litres of water a day. A village of 4,000 people needed a pool capable of holding 5.4 lakh litres of water to serve the minimum needs of its people.

They now had the capability of preparing such pools and people in every village should construct such pools, he noted.

Henry Valder, co-ordinator of Samanvaya, noted that water was essential for every living being and not human beings alone.
