THRISSUR, JUNE 19. The noted Kathakali singer Kalamandalam Sankaran Embranthiri, who had won this year's Swati Puraskaram, was honoured by the Arattupuzha Temple Kshethra Kshema Samithy at the temple premises on Saturday. Thanthrimukhyan K.P.C. Narayanan Bhattathirippad presented Mr. Embranthiri with a ponnada and a memento at the inaugural ceremony of the Sree Sankara Sangeetholsavam held in connection with the Prathishta Dina Mahotsavam of the Arattupuzha temple. Mr. Embranthiri was given a reception with the accompaniment of talappoli. The Cochin Devaswom Board president, T. K. Vijayaraghavan, offered felicitations. Mr. Embranthiri also inaugurated the Sangeetholsavam by lighting the traditional lamp with Mr. Bhattathirippad presiding over. Four keertanas were rendered by Mr. Embranthiri. A flute recital by Kombath Chandran, Sangeetharchana by devotees and thayambaka by Moorkkanad Dinesa Marar took place. The Sangeetholsavam will conclude on Sunday.
