Hudson Circle to get a facelift

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 19. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will give a facelift to Hudson Circle by constructing a tower, akin to the four Kempegowda towers, and by renovating the historical Hasi Karaga pond.

Announcing this here on Saturday, the Mayor, P.R. Ramesh said: "By giving a facelift to Hudson Circle, our aim is to restore the cultural heritage of Bangalore along with giving it a touch of modernity."

As Hudson Circle was the central point of the city, it needed to be attractive, he added.

The Mayor inspected several development projects undertaken by the BMP in the city, including the multi-level car parking complexes at J.C. Road and K.G. Road, the Ambedkar indoor stadium at Rajajinagar, the flyover at Basavanagudi, and the Kalasipalyam extension project. Mr. Ramesh said the car-parking complex at J.C. Road would be opened to the public in a month. It could accommodate nearly 250 cars, he added. The K.G. Road car-parking complex had room for 400 cars, and it would be ready by September, the Mayor said.

He noted that the traffic network in the city should be improved, for which coordination between all civic bodies was necessary. The Mayor also inspected the Rs. 6.293-crore Kalasipalyam extension project. Work had been completed on six of the 17 roads to be constructed under the project, he said. This project was unique to Bangalore and would be duplicated at other places in the city, he added.

Marine world

The Mayor said a Delhi-based company had approached the BMP with a proposal to construct a "marine world" commonly found in Singapore and Hong Kong. "This marine world will bring in an atmosphere of ocean in the city. The BMP is seriously considering the project and will take a decision soon," Mr Ramesh said.
