dated June 22, 1954: Training for PM

Burma's Prime Minister U Nu said in Rangoon on June 20 that he would like three of his Ministers to take their turn as Premier of Burma after he resigned. The Ministers he named were U Ba Swe, Defence Minister, U Kyaw Nyein, acting Foreign Minister, and Thakin Tin, Land Nationalisation Minister. U Nu said he had made this suggestion in order that a trained Premier may guide the country. He cited his own example with a flashback at ways of the past Burmese kings. He said history would show that Burmese kings placed emphasis on themselves and did not care to train their successors during their lifetime. The result was when the ruling monarch died the country suffered because there was no trained and fit person to assume responsibility and power.
