Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Maharashtra Government's decision to provide 52 per cent reservation in the private sector has to be reconsidered. Already, quality is lacking in the public sector owing to caste-based reservation. If this is extended to the private sector the people will be the losers.
Abinash Deepak,
* * * Sir, The existing reservation in the public sector should be analysed to determine whether it has been a success or failure.
N. Kumar,
* * * Sir, The Infosys Chief Mentor, N.R. Narayanamurthy's opposition to "quota" (June 19) should be noted. An unchecked extension of the quota system is a sure recipe for disaster.
J.S. Acharya,
* * * Sir, The Government should be able to cause no section of the community to brand itself backward if facilities for education and means of living are guaranteed to all. As is done in several Western countries, unemployment doles can be given, but the nature of job can be fixed only by common consent of the employee and the employer. Reservation for jobs militates against the basic principle of justice.
M.K. Ramaswami,
* * * Sir, When development is assured on an even platform, reservation for meritorious candidates from the downtrodden sections will be welcome.
Lt. Col. (retd.) R.V.S. Mani,
* * * Sir, When reservation is given to a certain section, we not only cripple it but also divide society. Efforts should be made to strengthen the growing private sector without diluting its progress by reservation.
Md. Yusuf,
