Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article, "Crisis of representative democracy" (June 19). It is true that the electoral democracy is compromised when people who lose elections are given ministerial berths. The back door entry of politicians rejected by the people is possible only because of the existence of the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Councils in the States. They should be abolished. The Representation of the People Act, which is silent on many vital fronts, needs a complete overhaul.
Sravana Ramachandran,
* * * Sir, The science of politics says that the primary objective of a political party is to give good administration when voted to power. But in India parties have either failed to realise it due to practical reasons or have been too selfish. Their motive in attaining the seat of power is to further the interest of the party and its leaders.
B. Vishweshwara Bhat,
