Tiwari meets Sonia on Ministry pruning
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
JUNE 21.
The Congress today carried forward its exercise to slash the Council of Ministers in States where the party is in power, in conformity with the Constitutional amendment that comes into force next month.
The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, held a meeting here with the Uttaranchal Chief Minister, N.D. Tiwari, who said that the hour-long interaction was focussed on downsizing his Ministry by dropping five Ministers to meet the requirement of limiting the size of the Council of Ministers. Mr. Tiwari has 17 Ministers in his Council, which has to be brought down to 12.
Mr. Tiwari dismissed reports that he had been asked to put in his papers and denied there was pressure on him to resign from the post following the poor showing of the party in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
