By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JUNE 21. The members of the Mahatma Nagar People's Welfare Association staged a dharna in front of the Pondicherry Slum Clearance Board at Periyar Nagar here today, demanding distribution of free house site pattas to residents of the area. They also demanded Rs. 40,000, under the Kamarajar Birth Centenary Housing Scheme, for each family to convert huts into concrete structures. The association president, G. Subbarayan, in a release, said that despite numerous representations to officials, basic amenities had not been provided to them for the past eight years. The agitators were arrested and later released.
