Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JUNE 21. The Centre for Nehruvian Studies in Pondicherry University has planned to hold a weeklong workshop in October to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pondicherry's liberation from French rule. It became part of Indian Union through a Treaty of Cession between the Indian and French governments on November 1, 1954. This day has been since observed as De facto Merger Day. Sources said here today that the Centre had placed proposals before the administration on the programmes being finalised in connection with the golden jubilee celebration. Several resource persons from France would also present papers on the freedom movement in French India.
