TUTICORIN, JUNE 21. The Srivaikundam women police have arrested four persons, including a woman and her son, on a charge of demanding more dowry. The police said L. Sundari (23) of Kaalvai under Sivaikundam police station limits was married to A. Lakshmanaperumal (27) of the same village on June 3, 2004 and the parents of the bride gave Rs. 20,000 in cash and 21 sovereigns of gold ornaments as dowry. As her husband and her in-laws, K. Arumugam (58), A. Shanmugathai (50), tortured her in demand of more dowry, she returned to her mother's house just four days after the marriage. Seizing his opportunity, Lakshmanaperumal married P. Amutha (23), also from the same village, on June 16 last. Based on a complaint lodged by Sundari, the police on Sunday night arrested Lakshmanaperumal, his mother, A. Shanmugathai, his second wife, P. Amutha, and her mother, Angammal. The police are looking for the groom's father, Arumugam, and his relative, Sudalaikannu.
IMFL shop looted
The Tuticorin central police are on the lookout for culprits who stole over Rs.1 lakh in cash from an IMFL outlet here. The police said the burglary came to light this morning when the supervisor, M. Natarajan (32) of Muniyasamypuram, came to open the shop. The burglars entered the shop breaking the locks. Based on a complaint lodged by Natarajan, the police are investigating.
