The protesters accused Mr. Ganesh of not utilising the funds according to norms in the last two years. Noting that memorandums and appeals had not an effect on the official concerned, the Samiti leaders said they had no option but to gherao him. The district convenor, Girish Kumar U.K., the former district convenor, Nirmal Kumar, and the district organising convenor, Anand Bellare, spoke.
`Elect Kulur as Mayor'
Noting that the post was reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate, Mr. Kumar said Mr. Kulur had worked for the uplift of the downtrodden and weaker sections of society. He criticised certain reported statements against Mr. Kulur, allegedly at the behest of vested interests which were carrying out a smear campaign. He said Mr. Kulur, if elected, would definitely work for the cause of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Probe sought
Members of the party have alleged that the rice seized was part of not only the Food-for-Work Scheme but also the Akshara Dasoha Scheme. It was also meant for distribution through fair price shops, they said. They wanted the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
