Partly cloudy day forecast

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundery developments in some areas of the Capital on Tuesday. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum temperature recorded on Sunday at Safdarjung and Palam was 36.5 and 37.6 degrees Celsius, the minimum was 26.2 and 26.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. The maximum and minimum humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 75 and 46 per cent, while Palam recorded a maximum of 85 per cent and a minimum of 59 per cent respectively.

Gangster nabbed

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. An alleged gangster, wanted by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal police, has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. He was involved in several heinous cases after escaping from the custody of Uttar Pradesh police on September 18, 2000.

According to the police, the accused, 27-year-old Vijay Fafrana, was arrested from near Sant Nirankari Sthal on Saturday. He was trying to flee in his Ford Ikon. A .315-bore country-made revolver was recovered from his possession.

Vijay had entered the crime world in 1998, when he shot dead Yatinder Singh of his village. Subsequently, he indulged in several crimes. He was arrested by the U.P. police in December 1998. He escaped from their custody on September 18, 2000. Subsequently, he killed one Hashin when he was being transported in police custody at Muzzaffarnagar in U.P. This year, Vijay had shot dead one Ravish and his friend, Neetu, and snatched their Ford Ikon at Meerut in U.P. After killing the two, he had thrown their bodies in Ganga. It was the same car in which he was travelling when he was arrested.

Acid thrown

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. A 28-year-old man and his wife sustained burn injuries when some unidentified persons threw acid on them in their house at New Usmanpur in North-East Delhi on Sunday night.

According to the police, Lakhender and his wife, Shalu (25), residents of Gali No. 1 Brahmpuri, Usmanpur, were sleeping in their house. The door of the house had been left open. In the wee hours, some unidentified persons threw acid on them and fled. Both of them have been admitted to GTB where their condition was reported to be stable.

One killed

in mishap

NEW DELHI JUNE 21. One person was killed and two others injured when the two-wheeler scooter which they were riding on was hit by a dumper truck at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi on Sunday evening.

According to the police, Shafiq (17), a resident of Joga Bai Extension, Shagir (35) and Salma (15), were riding the scooter which was hit by the truck near Kalindi Kunj in Sarita Vihar. Shafiq was declared dead on arrival at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The other two have been admitted with injuries.
