NEW DELHI, JUNE 21. In the wake of the double murder at Vasant Enclave in South-West Delhi on Saturday, the Delhi Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, today urged the senior citizens to adhere to certain guidelines issued by them to prevent any such incident in future. Dr. Paul said the senior citizens living away from their children must ensure that all the windows of their house are properly locked and they must install grills on the doors. They should also cover transparent/translucent windows with curtains and keep the lights on throughout the night. They have also been advised to install alarm bell system linking them with their neighbours. The senior citizens have also been requested not to keep things like rope, ladder and tables in the balconies that could be used by miscreants to gain entry into their houses. In case, they have employed domestic helps, they should never take out cash or jewellery in front of them. Servants should not be given access to almirahs and safes where they keep their valuables. They should install a magic eye on the main door to check the identity of visitors. As a preventive measure, they can also keep a dog with them. The senior citizens have been advised to never to allow any stranger inside the house. In case they notice any suspicious movement or character in the neighbourhood, they should immediately inform the police, either on the dedicated numbers -- 1091 and 1291, -- or on 100. The Police Commissioner also asked the senior citizens to intimate their respective Station House Officers (SHOs) if the area beat constable does not visit them regularly to check on their wellbeing.
