Motorists fall

into pits

KOCHI, JUNE 21. Several two-wheeler riders fell into pits dug to construct road medians on the Sahodaran Aiyyappan Road, between Elamkulam and Kadavanthra. Most of the accidents took place at night since the work contractor employed by the Corporation had not provided reflectors to warn motorists of the pits. Tar barrels fitted with reflectors were placed on the pits to warn motorists after the Traffic Police intervened, following complaints from the victims.

Ombudsman sitting

The Ombudsman for Local Bodies, K.P. Radhakrishna Menon, will hold a sitting at the GCDA conference hall on July 1 and 2, says a press release.

Applications invited

The Amrithabharati Vidyapeetom, Palarivattom, has invited applications for the `prabodhini', `sandeepani' and `bharati' examinations. The exam date will be August 15. For details, call: 2334673.

Passports despatched

The Regional Passport Office, Kochi, has issued passports for applications got till March 23. The passports have been despatched in the week ending June 18, the Regional Passport Officer has said.

MIDAC demand

The Mulavukad Island Development Action Committee (MIDAC) has demanded that the Chief Minister convene an urgent meeting of MPs for chalking out plans to speed up work on the Vallarpadam container-terminal project.

Nominated

T. Vinaykumar, treasurer, Advertising Club, has been nominated to the regional advisory committee of the Central Excise, representing the advertisement industry (service-tax sector), says a press release issued here by the Club.
