'Javed stayed at Malegaon hotel'

PUNE, JUNE 21. Investigation has revealed that Javed alias Pranesh Pillai, the alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist who was killed in an encounter in Ahmedabad, stayed in a hotel at Malegaon in Nashik district on June 11 with a burqua-clad woman for nearly five hours, police said today.

Police are trying to find out who this woman was as it could throw more light into the investigation and also the possible links of Javed with the 19-year-old Mumbai student Ishrat Jahan who was also killed in the encounter on June 15. Asked whether the woman could be Ishrat, police said: "We do not know. The hotel manager has identified Javed but not the woman since she was wearing a burqua. But one thing we know is that she was not his wife as his wife was in Ahmednagar at that time.''

The blue Tata Indica vehicle used by the alleged terrorists when they were gunned down in Ahmedabad was the same in which Javed had gone to Malegaon with the woman, police said.
