Gulbarga Mayoral polls on June 29

By Our Special Correspondent

GULBARGA, JUNE 22. The elections to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor and Chairpersons of various standing committees of the Gulbarga City Corporation will be held here on June 29.

According to an official notification, the post of Mayor has been reserved for Backward Class (B) category and the Deputy Mayor post has been reserved for General category candidates.

While no political party has a clear majority in the 61-member corporation council, the Congress with the help of the independents and a divided opposition had managed to win the top posts in the past three terms. Winning the two posts this time has become a prestigious issue for the Congress and any loss will be considered as a setback to the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, who hails from the district.
