Curfew relaxed in Sardana

SARDHANA (MEERUT), JUNE 22. Curfew was relaxed in phases today in this violence-hit town with no untoward incident being reported in the last two days, official sources said.

The indefinite curfew, clamped on Saturday after two people were killed following violence sparked off by an eve-teasing incident the previous day, was relaxed in some localities between 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., the District Magistrate, Rajesh Kumar Singh said.

The curfew relaxation passed off peacefully, he said, adding that in the second phase, curfew was being lifted in the sensitive localities between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

However, in neighbouring Muzaffarnagar district, prohibitory orders were imposed with immediate effect to maintain law and order in view of the Sardana violence.
