New computer course for women

NEW DELHI JUNE 22. The Institute of Computer Accountancy (ICA), set up by a group of chartered accountants, has started a new training course for women which will impart the latest education in computerised accounting procedures.

The new course offered by ICA includes training for back office executives, business communications, customer support and guest relations. The course would deal with computer fundamentals which would include MS office, Internet, power point, business fundamentals and professional grooming. The duration of the course is six months.

ICA has more than 150 centres in various parts of the country and is planning to open 50 new centres by the end of this year.

An `incredible bazaar'

NEW DELHI JUNE 22. The Janakpuri District Centre is the venue of the ten-day "Incredible Indian Handicraft Bazaar" which opened on June 19. On display is a wide array of traditional handicraft. About 80 stalls have been put up at the bazaar by craftsmen from Chittoor, Lucknow, Moradabad, Patiala, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Chanderi. The chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Laghu Udyog Nigam Ltd., Vipin Dixit, inaugurated the bazaar.

Self-defence camp concludes

NEW DELHI JUNE 22. The valedictory function of a self-defence camp for women organised by Sampurna, a non-government organisation, in association with the Delhi police and Bal Sanskar Shivir was held at the Maharana Pratap Community Hall here today. Certificates were distributed to the successful candidates. The Mayor of Delhi, A.R. Verma, and DCP North West District, Sanjay Singh, were the chief guests on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Verma congratulated Sampurna for taking the lead in organising such a successful self-defence camp.

Plea for tax exemption

NEW DELHI JUNE 22. The Eye Care Manufactures and Marketers Association of India (ECMMAI) has submitted a memorandum to the Union Finance Minister, the Commerce Minister and the Health Minister, seeking tax exemption for a period of 10 years on eye care products. The ECMMAI has appealed to the Government to bring down the excise duty from 16 to 8 per cent as the high duty puts the essential eye care products in the premium price segment.

Children's meet ends

NEW DELHI JUNE 22. The Inter-village Sports and Cultural Exchange programme organised for 80 children representing three branches of the SOS Children's Villages of India concluded this past Sunday. Children of the SOS Children's Village, Bawana; Sector 29, Faridabad and Greenfields, Faridabad branch participated in the three-day programme.

The Deputy National Director of SOS Children's Villages of India, R.K. Kapil, was the chief guest on the occasion. "The objective of the programme was to encourage children to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities. This will help children imbibe a sense of discipline, cooperation, team spirit and leadership skills," said the director of SOS Greenfields, Shailesh Kumar Singh.

All the children participated in literary and cultural competitions like group song, group dance, elocution, quiz, recitation and making of greeting cards. Children also took part on sports activities like kho kho, volleyball, shot put, discus throw, long jump and javelin throw.

Cable snap hits phones

NEW DELHI JUNE 22. About seven telephone cables comprising 7000 pairs have been affected by the ongoing construction work of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at Ramesh Nagar station. According to a MTNL release, the disruption was due to the fall of a four-foot high brick wall on the side of the cable lines.

About 4,300 subscribers of Karam Pura, Moti Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Rama Road and East Punjabi Bagh areas have been affected. The restoration work has already started and will be completed within 10 days.
