VIJAYAWADA, JUNE 22. The Krishna district unit of the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham has expressed disappointment over the Bill providing a six-month moratorium on loans obtained by farmers from private moneylenders as "it will not fully protect the interests of the farming community. "While the farmers are pinning hopes on the Government to relieve them from the pressure mounted by cooperative and commercial banks for repayment of loans, the Government has confined the moratorium to loans obtained from private lenders. Even as the Government is making arrangements to bring in legislation for farmers, the Department of Cooperation issued instructions asking officials to recover loans, if necessary, by using legal provisions. In a press release the Rythu Sangham demanded that the Government modify the Bill to extend the moratorium to commercial and cooperative banks.
