People's War ready for talks

BHUBANESWAR, JUNE 22. Close on the heels of the outlawed People's War group offering to hold talks with the Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand Governments, the naxalite outfit in Orissa today made a similar offer but stipulated conditions that included the withdrawal of the Central Reserve Police Force from anti-naxalite operations.

"We are always ready to discuss problems faced by the people, but it's clearly the responsibility of the Government to create the right atmosphere," said a statement signed by Dibakar, spokesman of the Andhra-Orissa border special zonal committee of the Peoples' War.

The outfit's five-point demand for talks with the Government included the withdrawal of CRPF personnel from the southern districts and stopping the combing operation and arrests carried out by police.

The Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, gave a guarded response to the offer saying his office had not received anything officially.

"This has been brought to my notice just now. We'll examine it and see what can be done."
