CUDDAPAH, JUNE 22. The District Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, on Tuesday urged farmers not to fell any trees, without obtaining prior permission from officials concerned. Speaking during a review of the progress in various departments at the revenue divisional meeting in the Jammalamadugu RDO office today, the Collector said that each family should plant and nurture at least three saplings, to check environmental pollution. He instructed the Mandal Revenue Officers to enforce a total ban on mining of sand from river and tank beds, as removal of sand from the water resources would lead to grave depletion in groundwater levels. Those desiring to sink a borewell should register themselves in the office of the deputy director of Ground Water Department, by paying a prescribed fee of Rs. 10,000 and seek permission to go in for a new borewell, Mr. Ranjan stated. He wanted maintenance of a minimum distance of 250 feet from the existing borewells. He called upon farmers to raise neem, jethropa and wild castor plantations. He urged agricultural officials to visit villages and motivate farmers to take up bio-energy plantations in banjar and DKT lands. The Project Director of District Water Management Agency, B. Gandhi Reddy, ZP Chief Executive Officer, P. Sudhakar Rao, Jammalamadugu RDO, Venkatesh, MROs and MPDOs participated.
