TSR chief cites `compulsions'

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is not going to be hamstrung by the compulsions of giving representation to different districts, castes or sections in the selection of Ministers to join the State Cabinet on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters after a joint meeting of the TRS Parliamentary and Legislature Parties on Tuesday, the party president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said the party was joining the Ministry because of certain compelling reasons on the eve of formation of separate Telangana.

He said when the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, invited the TRS to join the Ministry, the party was sure that it would do so only as a respectable partner in terms of the number of berths it would get in the Cabinet.

The TRS was not strict about portfolios its Ministers would get since their distribution was the prerogative of the Chief Minister. It would be unfair to seek such subjects because TRS Ministers were going to team up with the Chief Minister, he said. Mr. Rao said he had asked the prospective Ministers at the meeting earlier to work in the interest of the united State till the formation of Telangana.

The TRS chief said he would reconstitute the regional-level body of the TRS before he leaves for New Delhi in a few days. The district-level panel would also be set up. It was decided that all MPs and MLAs of the party would contribute a month's salary to Telangana Bhavan to be constructed by the party.
