Four farmers commit suicide

CUDDAPAH, JUNE 22. Sanapureddy Ramamohan Reddy (28) of Vallur town in Kamalapuram constituency committed suicide by consuming pesticide last night. The farmer, who had owned two acres of land, was steeped in debt and had taken up tailoring to eke out a living. He died at the Cuddapah Government hospital. He is survived by wife and a son.

KURNOOL: Yesuraju (30) committed suicide by consuming pesticide at the Military Colony in the outskirts of Kurnool city. Reports said the farmer, who had sunk two dry borewells, had taken poison on Saturday and died on Tuesday, while under treatment. He had taken loans from friends and relatives for the season, but Transco officials had reportedly delayed sanctioning him an agriculture connection. The Collector, Ajay Jain, and other officials visited the township and consoled the family. The Collector instructed Transco officials to sanction the connection.

NIZAMABAD: Gangamolla Poshaiah (55) committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the outskirts of Ekkapet village in Lingampet mandal. Reports said Poshaiah had owned four acres of land and had taken loans from the Gopalpet branch of Andhra Bank in Nagireddipet mandal. He is also said to have borrowed Rs. 65,000 from private moneylenders. The farmer tired to sell part of his land on Tuesday, a move that was opposed by his brother. His family has lodged a complaint against the brother.

KHAMMAM: Manda Narasimha Rao (54) committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Rayanapadu village of Bonakallu mandal today. The farmer, who had owned three-and-a-half acres of land, had faced crop loss for three years. He had loans to the tune of about Rs. 1 lakh, and had reportedly been pressured by moneylenders in the past weeks.
