`Nothing wrong in probe by House panel'

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, JUNE 22. The former Law Minister and senior Congress leader D.B. Chandre Gowda has said that there is nothing wrong in constituting a Joint Select Committee to probe the rice diversion racket.

Mr. Chandre Gowda told presspersons here today that as officials and political leaders seemed to be involved in the racket, a Joint Select Committee could be constituted to go into the racket. "However, it is for the Government to take a decision on it."

Commenting on the election setback, Mr. Chandre Gowda said that the anti-incumbency factor took a heavy toll because of the prevailing drought in the State and this was also the case in other States such as Andhra Pradesh.

He defended the coalition experiment in the State though the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) were political rivals. This was necessary to prevent the communal forces from assuming power.
