SHIMLA, JUNE 22. Himachal Pradesh Government has approved the implementation of carton and transport subsidy policy for the year 2004-05. An official said here today the subsidy on Aipil cartons of 20 kg will be kept at Rs 8 per carton and the grower may be allowed to obtain carton from Aipil at not more than Rs 26.50 per carton. The maximum limit of subsidy on cartons will be Rs 9600 per grower. He said subsidy will be available only to growers who own 19 bighas or less land under apple cultivation. No grower will be eligible for subsidy in excess of 1200 cartons and there will be no phase/phasing out of subsidy, but decision on carton subsidy will be taken by CMM on year to year basis. The spokesman said HPMC, Himfed, HPAIC and Kinfed (only for Kinnaur) will remain the disignated agencies for Aipil- manufactured cartons and no subsidy will be available for cartons procured from the private sector. The transport subsidy will be available at the same rate as for 2003-04 and will be allowed to farmers holding orchards up to 10 bighas, he added. He also said carton subsidy will be allowed to the orchardists upto December 15, 2004 and steps will be taken by the department to lease out the Aipil factory on the basis of competitive bidding.
