Power cut

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE <150> There will be no power supply between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 24 in Pandeshwar, Mission Street, Market and Bunder area, Carstreet, Hampankatta, Wenlock Hospital, Ansari Road, Bibi Alabi Road, Railway Station Road, KSR Rao Road, Kodiyalabail, Court Road, Ganapathi High School Road, Lady Goshen Hospital and nearby areas due to some emergency work at the 33/11 KV power supply station near Nehru Maidan, a Mescom release said.

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE <150> The Dakshina Kannada unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned the alleged attack on Sunil Kumar, MLA, Karkala, at a grama sabha in Mudradi in Udupi District on Monday.

In a press release today, the president of the unit, Pratap Simha Nayak, alleged that the attack was the handiwork of Congress leaders. It showed that the Congress leaders were desperate as they lost in the recent election. Mr. Nayak appealed to the police officers concerned to take action against those responsible for the attack.

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE <150> The Nitte Education Trust here has been permitted to admit students in the medical college it runs for the academic year 2004-05 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The permission was granted by the Medical Council of India after its fifth and final inspection of the college's infrastructure, according to a press release.

Recovered

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE The Madikeri town police have recovered a broken almirah, which was stolen from the museum here, near the Kote Mahila Samaja building adjoining the Fort. The museum is located inside the Fort.

Burglars had struck at the museum a few days ago where old artefacts are on display. The Madikeri town Sub-Inspector of police, Basavaraj, said that artefacts estimated at Rs. 6,000 were stolen. Investigation is on.

Takes charge

Wing Commander R M Shanware, who held the post till now, has been transferred, according to a press release.

Man dies

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE Hobalareddy, a helper, was injured fatally when a tipper in which he was travelling overturned and fell into a ditch on Hiredinni-Sunkanur Road near Kavital town in Manvi taluk on Monday.

The police said the injured was rushed to Raichur for treatment. However, he died on the way. The Kavital Police have registered a case.

Murdered

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE A 50-year-old man was murdered in Babaleshwar hobli 26 km from here in the early hours of Tuesday, the police said.

The police gave the name of victim as Arjun Ramanna Badachi from the village. The assailants had smashed Badachi's head with a boulder and threw the body on an open pavement the Kotyal Lane, they added.

Body found

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE The body of a middle-aged woman was found in Kudagi village in Basavanabagewadi taluk. The identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained, the police said.

Protest

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE<150>MADIKERI, JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE The Dalit Sangharsh Samithi has decided to hold a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in protest the anti-dalit policies of the Congress-Janata Dal (S) coalition Government in the State.

In a release here on Monday, the Convenor of the Samithi, Eeresh Hirehalli, said the demonstration was being held in response to a call by the State unit of the Samithi.
