"Javed's relatives will claim body"

PUNE, JUNE 22. The Additional Police Commissioner, Ashok Dhivre, today said that the relatives of Javed Gulam Muhammad Sheik, killed in the June 15 police encounter in Gujarat, had informed him that they would reach Ahmedabad, possibly tomorrow, to claim his body.

Mr. Dhivre said that five of Javed's relatives from his wife's side would most probably take the Pune-Ahmedabad Ahimsa Express to reach Gujarat. — UNI

Identity of girl unknown

Our Alappuzha Staff Reporter writes:

The identity of a girl, who is said to have accompanied Javed to Thamarakkulam in Alappuzha district during his visit, remains unclear.

Javed's father, M.R. Gopinatha Pillai, said the girl was a cousin of Sajida, Javed's wife. He said the girl accompanied Javed to help him manage his children during the journey and his sojourn in Kerala.

But the investigating agencies point out that initially Mr. Pillai had tried to cover up the visit of the girl.

Mr. Pillai, who talked to the media, did not mention the girl. It is being investigated whether it was Ishrat Jahan, who was killed along with Javed.
