Cloudy day

NEW DELHI JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thundershower accompanied with squall in some parts of the Capital on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around the 36 degrees Celsius mark.

While the maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday at Safdarjung and Palam was 34.8 and 36.2 degrees Celsius, the minimum was 23.2 and 23.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. The maximum and minimum humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 87 and 52 per cent, while Palam recorded a maximum of 63 per cent and a minimum of 47 per cent respectively.

Compensation enhanced

New Delhi JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE The Delhi High Court has enhanced the compensation from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1.05 lakh to be given to a five-year-old girl who suffered head injuries in an accident.

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal had awarded a compensation of Rs. 20,000 to her.

However, her parents sought enhancement of the amount saying that the girl, who was academically brilliant, could not retain her memory and had become mentally retarded after the accident.

The judge said the Tribunal ought to have awarded compensation keeping in view the fact that the child had suffered permanent disability throughout her life and the sum was "too meagre".

Suicide case

NEW DELHI JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE Apparently fed up of being taunted for being "obese", a 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her house at Badarpur in South Delhi on Monday night.

According to the police, Sheetal, daughter of Shashi, a resident of Meethapur, hanged herself after locking the door from inside following a fighting with her six-year-old sister. At the time, their parents were not at home.

Investigations revealed that all the three sisters of Sheetal used to tease her for being "obese".

Man hangs self

NEW DELHI JUNE 22.JUNE 22.JUNE A 40-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his house at Gokulpuri in North-East Delhi on Monday night.

According to the police, Ram Saran, a resident of Saboli Khadda in Gokulpuri, was found hanging in his house today morning. On Monday night, Ram's four children were sleeping outside the house and his wife was sleeping in another room. It is suspected that he hanged himself sometime last night.

Investigations revealed that Ram, who owned a small house and worked in a factory, used to have frequent arguments with his wife, with whom he was married about 20 years ago. On Monday too, he had an argument with his wife following which he went to sleep in another room where he was found hanging in the morning.
