BANGALORE, JUNE 22. The city police on Monday arrested three persons on the charge of cheating. The police said they were spotted while trying to cheat a man at Raja Market on Monday by claiming to be Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials. When the police approached them, they got into an autorickshaw and fled. The police gave them a chase and arrested S.K. Jafar (40), Sadiq Hussain (36) and Nazir (38) who had given their addresses in Pune in Maharashtra and Guntakal in Andhra Pradesh. Two other accused escaped, the police added. In another case, the managing director of a Whitefield-based factory, T. Muralikrishna Reddy, was cheated of Rs. 62 lakh allegedly by a few persons through fabricated documents of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and forged land documents and cheques, according to the police. The Whitefield Police have arrested T.S. Venkatesh, Chandrashekhar, Ramamurthy, Anjanappa and Krishnappa in this connection. The other accused, Venkataram Sharma, Shirish Kumar, Anand Raju, Vishnu Kumar, Rajagopal, Doddiprakash and G. Prakash, are at large. According to the police, the accused had allegedly fabricated documents of land measuring 0.85 hectares of land at Lottegollahalli in the city's Dollar's Colony to show that it was valued at Rs. 8 crore. Mr. Reddy was promised loan from the Kathriguppe branch of a bank to buy the land. The police said he was issued a cheque for Rs. 2 crore and another for Rs. 5 crore as loan, both of which were fabricated. He reportedly paid Rs. 62 lakh between March 2 and May 5 this year to the accused.
