SHIMOGA, JUNE 23. Siri Souharda Credit Cooperative Ltd., which recorded transactions amounting to Rs. 8 crore during 2003-04, has increased its profit eightfold over the previous year. Stating this at a press conference here on Wednesday, V.R. Hegde, president of the cooperative, said the institution had been extending financial assistance through its branches at Shimoga, Sagar and Nagar in Shimoga district since it came into being 19 months ago. He said the cooperative had obtained the Government's permission to open branches in other parts of the State. Dr. Hegde said the cooperative had enrolled 5,000 members and extended financial assistance to about 2,000 families under various schemes. He said the net profit of the cooperative stood at Rs. 3.5 lakh for 2003-04.
