Bihar seeks Army help

PATNA,
JUNE 23.
The Bihar Government has sought the help of the Army for constructing Bailey bridges at two points to restore two vital roads disconnected due to floods.
In two incidents of boat capsize in Bhagalpur district, at least eight persons were feared killed taking the toll in the floods to 38 in the State. A boat carrying 25 persons met with an accident in an area coming under Sabaur police station in which at least seven, including four children, were feared drowned. In the other incident, a woman was drowned when a boat capsized near Shri Rampur Ghat coming under the Nathnagar police station.
The Chief Secretary, K.A.H. Subramanian, has written to the Defence Secretary to help step up the relief work in the flood-hit areas and send the Army Engineering Corps to help construct Bailey bridges near Masaurhi, where a diversion has been submerged dislocating the connection between Patna and Gaya. The Government has underlined the need to restore the bridge that has been washed away between Chandan and Katoriain Bhagalpur district. .
